Twitter Pushes the Right Buttons with New Follow Button

Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber may already have 20 million combined followers on Twitter, but they want to make it even easier for fans to interact with them in the social space. Now, thanks to the folks at Twitter, you, too, can make it easy for your consumers, fans, viewers and advocates to follow your brand’s Twitter handle. This week, Twitter introduced the “Follow” button, the platform’s answer to the now-ubiquitous “Like” and “Recommend” buttons from Facebook that can be placed on any website or blog.

Twitter promises that its latest widget will help to “increase engagement and create a lasting connection” with your audience, and doing so without even asking them to leave your web property.

How It Works

If a user is already signed in to Twitter, no additional steps are required once they click “Follow.” If a user is not signed into Twitter, all they will need to do is provide their Twitter credentials and click to follow from a pop-up window.

The process of adding the button requires little or no coding whatsoever, and should be no sweat for your developers or web designer.  They can use JavaScript or even just copy and paste HTML code from the Twitter website into the site’s source code. You can also customize some of the color and alignment options to maintain brand consistency.
