You may be checking into locations – but are you checking in to experiences yet? If not, you should definitely check out GetGlue.
GetGlue is a social network which allows users to check in to TV shows, movies, music and books, and see what their friends are consuming in real time. And though it has just under 1 million users, it’s growing fast. Now, GetGlue is stepping it up a notch by not only integrating with Foursquare, the popular geo-location platform, but also by giving users the ability to check in to sporting events.

Sports check-ins have already proved their popularity through test programs like Foursquare’s 2011 Super Bowl Sunday check-in, where over 200,000 people checked in, but have not been widely utilized until now. This new GetGlue function not only allows users to watch sporting events, but in a sense attend.
For example – You’re watching a Yankees vs. Red Sox game on a Saturday afternoon – now, whether you’re at a bar or at Yankee Stadium, you can use GetGlue to check in to the game, and will be geo-located through the Foursquare integration. This lets users share common experiences and engage with others who are in different places all over the country, enjoying the same game. Perhaps you’re a Red Sox fan watching the game and don’t want to check-in with rival fans. That’s ok – GetGlue gives users the ability to either check-in to the event (Yankees vs. Red Sox) or check-in to their team (Red Sox).
Movie theaters are another great example of the unique impact the Foursquare integration has on GetGlue. Now instead of checking in to a movie theater and adding text about what movie you’re seeing, you can check in to the movie itself and be geo-located, allowing you to not only share your location with friends, but share the movie experience with other theater-goers.
Worried about privacy? No need to fret! Like the pre-existing GetGlue sharing functions for Twitter and Facebook, Foursquare integration is not automatically enabled. Since not all GetGlue check-ins require location, users have the ability specifically choose to share their location with their network.
GetGlue is also improving their reward model – moving away from just “stickers” and digital-only rewards, to now offer discounts through its new partners. Partners include Turner Sports, the NFL Network, Fox Sports, Fox Soccer Channel, Fox College Sports, HBO Sports, Showtime Sports, Speed, Fuel TV, the NHL, and the San Antonio Spurs.

GetGlue stickers are expanding via new brand partners — with added value.
