Snapchat Becomes Sophisticated Mobile Messenger Product
Snapchat users awoke Thursday morning to a video message from the app announcing a big update and several new features. The video detailed the app’s updated look and functionality, which reflects a more sophisticated mobile messenger product. New features include text messaging and video chat options, which will allow users to see instant reactions to the photos or videos they share. Additionally, the updated app now features a cleaner user interface.

Vine Introduces Desktop Destination
Likewise, Vine updated its look and introduced some new features to increase content discoverability on the platform. Based on user feedback, the formerly mobile-only app introduced a desktop version complete with an Explore page, home feed and familiar channels, allowing people to discover, watch and share Vine videos across the web. The update also includes the addition of some new sections featuring hand-curated content to make it easier for people to find videos and accounts.

Coldplay Challenges Fans with Digital Scavenger Hunt
Coldplay has opted to promote their new album, “Ghost Stories,” through a digital scavenger hunt. The band hid hand-written lyric sheets in ghost story books throughout libraries across the world and challenged fans to go out and find them. With the help of clues the band provided via their Twitter handle, fans have already found several of the sheets. One of the hidden envelopes also contains a “Golden Ticket,” good for a free trip for two to see a live Coldplay performance in London.

Maker’s Mark Announces Derby-Inspired Reddit Homepage Takeover
Maker’s Mark whiskey is advertising a Kentucky Derby-inspired campaign on Reddit, asking users to submit whiskey-themed horse names for the opportunity to be featured in a “home page takeover”. The best make-believe thoroughbred names (and submitters) will be featured, and “extra credit” is going to Reddit and bourbon-related references. At the time of posting, over one thousand responses have been submitted.

Hulu and Pizza Hut Partner for In-Stream Purchase Unit Ads
Hulu is partnering with advertisers like Pizza Hut to bring fans a new type of ad while they watch their favorite shows. These new ad innovations will allow viewers to order pizza during commercial breaks without having to leave the Hulu site, creating uninterrupted experiences for fans. This type of ad will provide an opportunity for purchase on the spot, and help brands to target niche audiences.
